WBBL Signings: Experienced Stars recommit

The Melbourne Stars’ WBBL squad is taking shape, with Maisy Gibson and Georgia Prestwidge recommitting for the upcoming season.

The bowling duo played every game last year and will provide plenty of experience for the Stars in Weber WBBL|12.

“We are really pleased to be welcoming Maisy and Georgia back for another season,” Melbourne Stars General Manager, James Rosengarten, said.

“It was important for us to keep a large portion of our list together and build on the progress we made last season, so to have two senior players return is a great thing for the club.

“Maisy has had a lot of success in this competition over a long period of time and really troubles batters with her spin, while Georgia has genuine pace and can find the boundary with the bat as well.”

Gibson returns for her third season in green, having previously played at the Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes.

The leg spinner has 96 WBBL matches under her belt and claimed eight wickets at an average of 18.75 last season.

This season will be Prestwidge’s second for the Stars, having made the switch from cross-town rivals the Melbourne Renegades ahead of WBBL|11.

The 28-year-old, who has played 87 WBBL matches, has career-best figures of 4/12 with the ball and a top score of 23* with the bat.

These two signings take the Stars to 12 contracted players for the upcoming season, with three spots still to be filled.
