WA trio heads east to join Stars for Big Bash

The Stars today confirmed the 31-year-old has signed a multi-year deal after playing 38 matches for the Perth Scorchers where he took 46 wickets with best figures of 3-9. The right-hander also accumulated 285 runs for the Scorchers including a high score of 42 not out.

Fellow Western Australians all-rounder Clint Hinchliffe and pace bowler Lance Morris will also join Coulter-Nile in signing for the Stars.

On the move to the Stars, Coulter-Nile said he was looking forward to beginning a new phase of his Big Bash career.

“The opportunity to come to Melbourne and the MCG for the summer and to play at the Stars proved to be an exciting one,” Coulter-Nile said.

“I feel as though I am at a stage of my career where a move feels right and to have friends like Adam Zampa and Marcus Stoinis at the Stars, made it the right fit.

“The last eight years at the Scorchers have been great and it was a tough decision to leave. I really appreciate the support I’ve received from the coaches, staff, members and fans and I’d like to thank all of them.”

Playing three games for the Scorchers last season, all-rounder Hinchliffe will add to the Stars’ spin stocks while Morris bolsters the pace bowling being elevated from a Stars replacement player to a full-contract.

Stars List Manager Trent Woodhill said the three signings has strengthened the Stars’ list.

“We all know Nathan is an international star. He brings so much with the ball and provides us with depth in our batting. We’re very excited to have him on board,” Woodhill said.

“Clint Hinchliffe brings some variation to our spin bowling stocks while Lance Morris is a very promising fast bowler. We can’t wait to see what both of these young players bring to the table.”

The Melbourne Stars will open its BBL|09 campaign against the Brisbane Heat on December 20 at Metricon Stadium while its first MCG match of the season will be the Melbourne Derby against the Melbourne Renegades on January 4.

Tickets for Stars matches will go on sale at 10am AEST at melbournestars.com.au.
