9. Sandeep’s first wicket in the BBL

The Nepalese spinner wasted no time making his mark on the BBL, taking the wicket of Sydney Thunder captain Shane Watson with his second ever ball in the competition! Sandeep finished the game with figures of 2-36, and took 11 wickets in his 6 matches during the season.

8. Peter Handscomb’s epic BBL return against the Sixers

Returning from Australian test duties for our third match against the BBL, Peter Handscomb shone with an incredible 70 runs off 35 balls. The batting effort saw the Stars to their first win of the season, as we sunk the Sixers at the SCG.

7. Stars Light up Moe match

The Stars took the BBL to rural Victoria in January, playing a match against the Strikers at Ted Summerton Reserve in Moe. The men in green put on a batting masterclass, with Ben Dunk leading the way with an unbeaten 72, which also earnt him player of the match honours. The bowlers ripped through the Strikers’ line-up, bowling them out with 2 balls remaining and giving the Stars a 44-run win against the reigning premiers.

6. Marcus Stoinis’ incredible 4-fa against the Heat

Stoinis wasn’t just in form with the bat this season! He also became a superstar bowler, and a crucial part of our bowling attack. In our game against the Heat at the MCG, he was instrumental in our incredible victory, taking 4 wickets to see the Stars defend a total of 134 runs.

5. Stars win both Melbourne Derbies

The Stars truly won hometown bragging rights in BBL|08, winning both the Melbourne Derby at Marvel Stadium and the MCG. At the ‘G, DJ Bravo showcased his bowling prowess, and Marcus Stoinis batted from first to last ball, scoring an unbeaten 78 to see the Stars to victory.

4. Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten 78 against the Renegades

Marcus Stoinis played some of his best cricket this season, and was always ready to fire no matter the match-up. His unbeaten 78 to give us bragging rights over our crosstown rivals was a sensational batting effort, and kick-started his red-hot form with the white ball. What a legend!

3. Glenn Maxwell sends Stars to finals

An incredible captain’s knock at the MCG saw the Stars into their 7th finals appearance in 8 years. The Sixers were on top during the first innings, and the Stars were 4-103 with 4 overs to go. That was until Maxwell hit a phenomenal 4 fours and 6 sixes to elevate the Stars score to 168. 3 of his 6 sixes came off the last over alone, and the skipper finished with 82 runs off 43 balls.

2. Dan Worrall takes 4-fa in the Semi Final

Dan Worrall ripped through the Hurricanes’ batting line-up in the first BBL|08 semi-final. Dismissing both Matthew Wade and Caleb Jewell in his first over, he then came back to bowl in the later overs and sent both George Bailey and Simon Milenko back to the bench. It was the perfect start to our finals campaign, and earnt Franky player of the match honours.

1. Our Semi Final Win

It was a huge upset at Blundstone Arena, as the Stars toppled minor premiers, the Hobart Hurricanes, in the first semi final. Dan Worrall got the Stars off to an incredible start with 2 wickets in his first over, and Glenn Maxwell and Seb Gotch finished off our batting innings in style, sealing our spot in the Final with a six!
