Thanks KP!

27 January 2018

Kevin Pietersen is no stranger to the game of cricket. The right-handed batsman and occasional off spin bowler has played all formats of the game.

Pietersen, affectionately nicknamed KP, has done plenty of work both on and off the field for the Stars and the Big Bash League in his time.

KP has been the leading run-scorer for Melbourne Stars in each of his seasons with the club, and has been one of the most sought-after T20 players in the world.

In 2014 Kevin Pietersen made his long-awaited appearance in the Big Bash League for the Melbourne Stars as the competition's highest-profile signing.

His experience, talent, and world-class enthusiasm was a tremendous addition to the squad as he played his first eight matches in the green to see the Stars finish third on the ladder 5-3.

KP was the club's highest scorer for BBL|04, with a strike rate of 122.59, making 293 off 239.

He enjoyed a successful first season and was named Stars Player of the Year alongside the now-skipper John Hastings.

2014 also saw KP become a fan-favourite amongst the Australian audience with his work behind the microphone both in the commentary box and on the field.

In BBL|05 Pietersen batted 323 from 203 and was amongst the highest in the league with four half-centuries. He finished with an incredible strike rate of 159.11 and averaged 40.38, with a high score of 76.

Pietersen had an abundance of impressive performances in BBL|05, including the 2015-16 final at the MCG. Despite the Stars falling to the Sydney Thunder and becoming the season's runners-up, Pietersen had a sensational performance, striking 74 from 39 balls.

KP continued to boost his brand in BBL|05, with his natural flair for commentary helping his cricket.

Despite the scrutiny or praise he received, the top-order batsman impressed both on and off the field, earning copious amounts of respect amongst Australian spectators.

KP produced batting masterclass in BBL|06 and finished the season with 268 runs - the most of any Stars player.

He was eighth on the overall BBL run-scoring list, and finished second on the Star's all-time run scorers list, behind fellow Englishmen Luke Wright.

Pietersen lit up stadiums all over Australia multiple times throughout the season, most notably against cross-town rivals, the Melbourne Renegades.

Pietersen scored 73 off 46, the second best score of any Star in BBL|06. He was also thoroughly impressive against the Sydney Thunder, scoring 60 off 37 balls.

Determined to #SaveTheRhinos and fuelled by his passion for wildlife, KP along with the Stars dedicated a game to Rhino conservation. The match raised awareness about Rhino endangerment and extinction, and donated funds to two charities: Remembering Rhinos and Rhinos in Safe Hands.

Despite a 0-4 start to the season, KP remains upbeat and in positive spirit. So far he has hit a total of 80 off 64, but will be looking to finish strongly in his last campaign for team green.

Pietersen recently gave his best knock of BBL|07 against the Melbourne Renegades in the MCG derby, striking 40 off of 30 balls.
