Having always made the finals but never won the title, the Stars are hoping that a strong squad full of big hitters and all-rounders will give them the balancing act they need to finally go all the way in the BBL|07 season.

13-player Squad: John Hastings (c), Michael Beer, Scott Boland, Liam Bowe, Ben Dunk, James Faulkner, Seb Gotch, Even Gulbis, Glenn Maxwell, Kevin Pietersen, Marcus Stoinis, Luke Wright, Adam Zampa.

Players to watch

During the off-season, the Stars signed former Adelaide Striker Ben Dunk, two-time leading run-scorer. The superstar batsman joins the Stars after finishing BBL|06 with 364 runs in eight matches- the leading score of the tournament. Dunk will be more than eager to impress and should have the batting power to do so.

Leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been impressive in recent practice matches and seems to be in fine form just in time for the start of the season. He was named player of the match in the Border Bash against Sydney Thunder and took the most wickets for the Stars in the Valley Smash against Hobart Hurricanes.

The  team is also home to many proven performers, such as superstar Kevin Pietersen, opener Luke Wright, big-hitter Glenn Maxwell, and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, all of which are always players to be watched for the Stars.

New Captain Hastings

Following fellow skipper David Hussey’s retirement, all-rounder John Hastings will see himself captain the Stars for the upcoming T20 season. Not only is he the Star’s all-time leading wicket-taker, he has been with the club since its inception. It is a position that The Duke feels “proud” and “privileged” to be in.

Last Time We Met

Brisbane Heat 3-139 def. Melbourne Stars 7-138 by 7 wickets.

The Heat recorded a seven wicket victory over the Melbourne Stars, breaking the Stars three-game winning streak in a must-win match. Mark Steketee was dangerous with a perfect start, taking two wickets in two balls in the first over of the match. Seb Gotch and Luke Wright kept team green in the match, however Joe Burns (42 runs from 32 balls) and Alex Ross (46 from 40) were too hard to stop.

The action kicks off at 7:40pm AEDT on Wednesday the 20th of December. Don’t miss it Stars fans!
