Stoinis and King claim top honours

02 April 2019

All-rounder Marcus Stoinis and bowler Alana King have tonight been named Melbourne Stars BBL|08 and WBBL|04 Player of the Season at Cricket Victoria’s State Awards.

Stoinis, who re-signed with the Stars leading into the season, had a standout year in green, accumulating four Player of the Match awards across 13 matches.

He completed the season as the team’s highest run scorer and the competition’s third highest with 533 runs including a high score of 81.

The all-rounder also showcased his skills with the ball, completing the season as the club’s second highest wicket taker with one of his most impressive performances coming at the MCG against the Brisbane Heat, where he took best figures of 4-21.

Spin bowler King had an impactful season with the Stars leading the team’s wicket taking list with 14.

Her best figures came against the Sydney Sixers in our last match of the tournament, where she took 3-13 off her four overs, including the prized scalp of Alyssa Healy for 35.

King also proved to be handy with the bat, collecting runs quickly late in the game. Against the Adelaide Strikers, King joined Erin Osborne out in the middle and hit a six off her first ball faced to seal a 4-wicket win.

Congratulations to Marcus and Alana on their awards.
