The news ends a highly successful partnership which began in 2016 when Optus stepped in to support the Stars and developed one of the league’s most productive commercial partnerships.
Since that time, Optus has taken on a major role as both Principal Partner and Major Partner of the Melbourne Stars Men’s and Women’s Big Bash League squads..
Over the four years of the partnership, the Stars men’s team have competed in three BBL finals..
"We are proud of the partnership we built with the Melbourne Stars over our four-year sponsorship and how we collectively demonstrated creativity in our activations and on-field promotion. We remain good friends of the Stars and look forward to their continued success,” said Mel Hopkins, Optus’ Head of Marketing..
Melbourne Stars General Manager of BBL, Commercial and Marketing Nick Cummins thanked Optus for their investment in the club.
"Optus joined the Melbourne Stars at a time of need and from there the club built a fantastic relationship which has driven outstanding results for Optus in the years that followed. As a household name, Optus gave the Melbourne Stars wonderful opportunities through their national networks and we’re proud of what we’ve been able to achieve working with them,” Cummins said..
"While we are disappointed that we won’t be able to continue that work, we understand that businesses and priorities change over time. On behalf of the club, we’d like to wish Optus well in their future direction.
"Our focus is now on securing a new Principal Partner for the Melbourne Stars and further announcements will be made in due course," Cummins said.
