Stars and Optus bring the party to the Gold Coast

13 November 2018

The Melbourne Stars and Optus today joined Gold Coast Deputy Mayor Cr Donna Gates to announce Optus will bring the party to the Gold Coast for the hotly anticipated 5 January KFC BBL match at Metricon Stadium where the Stars will take on the Sydney Thunder.

The Stars are well-known for offering an unrivalled family-friendly match experience in Melbourne, and are thrilled Optus is adding to the fun by bringing global DJ sensation Hot Dub Time Machine to the Gold Coast.

Newly re-signed Stars, Evan Gulbis and Liam Bowe, were on-hand to celebrate the announcement and called on Stars fans all around Australia who are heading to the Gold Coast this summer to make sure they get along to this summer's biggest party.

“I'm so rapt to be back with the Stars. My summer with the Stars has become one of the best times of the year and even more so having recently had my first child. The Stars are such a very family-oriented Club and I’m excited to bring my family up to the Gold Coast this summer for our match at Metricon on 5 January. I hope lots of Stars fans will use the opportunity to bring their families up and party with us,” said Gulbis.

“On the field, I think you will see a new Stars brand of T20 this summer as we set about making an amends for last season. We've got a really good list together, which I'm sure will be exciting for our fans.”

Optus Queensland State Manager, Mark O’Shea, announced Optus will bring one of Australia’s most in demand DJs to the Gold Coast for the match to add to the big hits and fireworks of the BBL.

“To add to the match day fun, Optus is bringing globally recognised DJ Hot Dub Time Machine to play a free 45-minute set on the field after the game for all ticket holders,” said O’Shea.

“Today’s announcement builds on the $30 million investment we made earlier this year to expand and improve mobile coverage with the completion of more than 340 infrastructure projects including 12 new mobile towers, more than 100 upgrades and improved in-building and regional coverage across the coast,” he said.

Gold Coast Deputy Mayor Cr Donna Gates officially welcomed the Melbourne Stars.

“Our stadium is rated one of the best in Australia for an overall family experience. Having the thrill of BBL here will take the game to the next level,’’ she said

“I encourage Melbourne and Sydney fans to make the trek north as their teams do battle in the best city in Australia for fun and family holidays.’’
