A message from the CEO

18 January 2018

From the Melbourne Stars Chief Executive Officer Clint Cooper

To our loyal members, fans and supporters,

First, on behalf of everyone at the Club, I want to thank you for your continued support of our teams. Your passion and enthusiasm throughout our most challenging season yet, has been nothing short of exceptional and very humbling.

Disappointingly, our performances this season have been far from acceptable and well below the standard expected by our club and you, our supporters. Rightly or wrongly, we believed that this group - which had taken us to six successive finals series - was more than capable of having another tilt at the title.

I can assure you that everyone, from our players and coaches to our staff and directors, are all hurting and frustrated by our performances.

Naturally, there has been a lot of soul searching as to where we went wrong this summer and why. And whilst it is easy to point the finger at individual player performances, selection decisions and our list more generally, now is not the time to fire slings and arrows. All aspects of the season will continue to be thoroughly examined, but the immediate focus is on doing all that we can to deliver performances more consistent with the pride I know our players have in the green shirt. We have three matches to show you, and show ourselves, what our Club is about.

What I will also say is that we are committed to swiftly rebuilding and restoring the Melbourne Stars as a competitive, dynamic and powerful outfit. No stone will be left unturned in search of any elements that not only make us a tough opponent, but a force capable and committed to long-term success.

Our WBBL team are showing the way here with some stirring, hard-fought wins and a growing belief in one another.

As this season draws to a close, you will continue to see playing time provided to our up-and-coming stars; an ongoing commitment to gutsing it out; and a chance to appropriately farewell several loyal servants of our great Club.

History shows us that all the great clubs have their ups and downs, their peaks and troughs and challenging times. Just like your favourite football or basketball team, it’s times like these that bind us together and make the good times even more rewarding.

Once again, thank you for your support. Get behind the Stars in our last three matches.
