Melbourne Stars Chief Executive Officer Clint Cooper said that Lanning had the full support of the club during her rehabilitation and that the club would work with Cricket Australia to monitor her recovery.
“We would like to wish Meg all the very best in her recovery,” Cooper said.
“Meg is an integral part of our club both on and off the field. Her leadership is unrivalled and on the field, we all know she is the best cricketer in the world.
“Meg’s a part of the Stars family and we will work with her and Cricket Australia during her rehabilitation period. We look forward to seeing her back on the field as soon as possible.”
Commenting on Lanning’s surgery, Cricket Australia Team Physiotherapist, Kate Mahony said:
“Meg has been managing a right shoulder injury and following the recent World Cup, it became apparent that she would require surgery,” Mahony said.
“Meg underwent surgery earlier this week and we expect that she will require a long rehabilitation period of 6-8 months, ruling her out of the upcoming Ashes Series.
“We will continue to monitor her progress, with return to play timelines to become clearer once she has commenced rehabilitation.”
