Melbourne Stars 6-98 def. Hobart Hurricanes 3-115 by 4 wickets D/L
Winning the toss and electing to bowl, both teams had their overs reduced to 14 due to bad weather.
Erin Burns and Georgia Redmayne were first up for the Hurricanes and it didn’t take long for our girls to strike with Flem (Emma Kearney) clean bowling Redmayne for just ten in the third over. Burns was the next to go, run out by the Skipper for 15, with Knight the last to fall for a knock of 45 in the 14th over off a ball from Gemma Triscari.
Amy Satterthwaite and Hayley Matthews remained unbeaten on 39 and zero respectively, leaving the Hurricanes with a total of 115 after their 14 overs.
So with 116 our target, Wes and the Megastar made their way to the middle to start our run chase. Unfortunately it only took until the fourth over for the Hurricanes to get the breakthrough with the Skipper caught by Burns for just eight. Sciv was bowled LBW by Satterthwaite four overs later and then in the tenth over play was stopped due to more rain.
When play was resumed, we were given a total of 27 runs to make off 14 balls with Wes and JC at the crease.
Wes brought up her half-century an over later, only to then be dismissed LBW by Hepburn. K-Mack, Anna Lanning and Flem all fell for just five runs within two overs and we needed 12 runs off the last two balls for the win. JC picked up two boundaries and a single, with a handy free hit from a no ball for some help, to get our girls over the line.
Well we could not have predicted those final three balls of the game even if we had tried. Needing 12 runs off the last two balls, we would be lying if we said we weren’t nervous. Desperately needing a win to stay in finals contention, JC smashed a six off the second last ball, meaning we needed one more six to seal the win. When JC hit a four off the final ball, for a moment there we thought we were done, but when the umpire called a no ball we COULD NOT BELIEVE IT! So only needing a single from the free hit, JC hit the winning run to win the game. What a finish!
We couldn’t got past Wes for this one considering she made her first ever half-century for #TeamGreen this evening. As our top-scorer today, Wes made 51 off 31 balls, hitting eight boundaries in the process. It was a fantastic knock from our opener today and she really set up our winning run chase.
