The Game at a Glance
The Stars struck quickly with the ball and in the field, with 4 wickets falling quickly for the Adelaide Strikers, including the dangerous Suzie Bates. After Sophie Devine steadied the ship with a score of 46, the Stars kept the total to a competitive 144.
Lizelle Lee came out firing and hit 5 of our 15 boundaries – including 2 sixes. She eventually skied a delivery and was promptly caught by Alice Price. Erin Osborne came to the crease and batted until the last ball – scoring 54 not out. Alana King came to the crease and the Stars needed 6 off the last 4 balls as the game came down to the wire. King promptly hit her first and only delivery for a maximum, winning the game for the girls in green.
With the Ball
It was a good bowling effort from the Stars. Skipper Erin Osborne led the way with fantastic figures of 2-16 off her four overs. Alana King also had a great spell, taking 2-24 including the wicket of the dangerous Sophie Devine for 46. Nicola Hancock also featured with the wicket of Amanda Jane Wellington.
Annabelle Sutherland also starred with the only maiden over of the match, helping the Stars to restrict the Strikers batters to a reasonable total of 144.
Some extremely sharp fielding early in the innings saw two quick wickets fall as both Ange Reakes and Mignon du Preez showed their fielding prowess. Ange Reakes rocketed one for a direct hit to dismiss a loitering Suzie Bates, and Mignon du Preez and Nicole Faltum combined to send Bridget Patterson back to the dug out after a batting mix-up.
With the Bat
Lizelle Lee got the Stars off to a flying start. 3 fours and 2 sixes shot off the bat before Lee skied one and was caught by Price. Ange Reakes put up a good effort with 2 fours before being caught herself by an incredible diving catch by Suzie Bates.
Erin Osborne stepped up again and built a steady partnership with Georgia Elwiss until the latter was dismissed for 14. Osborne eventually scored an unbeaten 54, making her the top-scorer. Annabel Sutherland had an important cameo with some quick running between wickets to keep the run rate ticking over. In the end, it was Alana King who smacked a six off her first and only delivery faced to see the Stars to victory.
Star of the Show
Captain Erin Osborne showed off her experience and skills with bat and ball. Her incredible bowling spell of 2-16 off her four overs and her unbeaten half century led the Stars to victory and rightfully earned her player of the match honours.
