Rain the winner of Stars women's match

05 January 2019

The first of two matches to be played against the Sydney Thunder this weekend has been washed out, with wild winds and hail preventing play.

The Game at a Glance

The Sydney Thunder won the toss and elected to bat, and got off to a slow start with Holly Ferling finding an early wicket, dismissing Rachel Priest for just 5 runs. Alana King followed and made the most of the green pitch. Her spin masterclass proving too much for Naomi Stalenberg, who was looking dangerous out in the middle but was caught in the circle by Erin Osborne with a terrific diving catch.

Rachael Haynes was Holly Ferling's second victim after the first rain delay, she skied Ferling's delivery and it was an elementary catch for Lizelle Lee. Thunder captain Alex Blackwell and Harmanpreet Kaur looked to get going in what was a 14-over a side match, but the rain returned and settled to see the game washed out after 10 overs of the first innings completed.

Up Next

The Stars will take on the Thunder again tomorrow at Bankstown Oval, and will be keen to have the 2 points all to themselves with a win over the number 2 side in the competition.
