Stars defeat Strikers by 37 runs

13 January 2017

The Melbourne Stars has won their game against the Adelaide Strikers at Lilac Hill in Perth this afternoon by a margin of 37 runs.

Well what a game! Managing their second win against the Strikers in as many games, our girls positively dominated today’s match to seal the win.

Melbourne Stars 125 def. Adelaide Strikers 88 by 37 runs.

Our girls were sent into bat first in Perth and we did not quite get off to the start we were hoping for. With the Strikers getting the breakthrough wicket in the fifth over, Wes was sent on her way for 14. The Skipper soon followed for 17 with Sciv the next to go, run-out for eight in the 12th over.

So with wickets falling early, we needed to stabilise our innings to make sure we could make a competitive total. JC and K-Mack were our girls at the crease and they both put on handy totals to get the team back on track.

JC top-scored today with 42 off 48 balls, while K-Mack made 19 from her innings, with both girls steadying the ship with their partnership. But with our last five wickets falling for a total of just 19 runs, we were all out for 125.

The Strikers then took to the middle and it wasn’t long before our girls snagged a wicket – McPharlin was the first to go off a ball from Flem. Sciv and Beamsy then grabbed wickets in quick succession, with Sciv then nabbing another in the tenth over.

So with four wickets gone and needing 50 runs off the last 30 balls, Trixie struck, snagging two wickets in two balls, including the wicket of top-scorer Edwards. Managing another wicket in the same over, and Beamsy getting another two in the 17th, the last wicket came off a run-out with the Strikers all out for just 88.

The Moment

We got some absolute brilliance off Gemma Triscari in the 16th over when she snagged three wickets from it! Nabbing Patterson on the second ball of the over and sending Edwards on her way off the next ball, Trixie was on a hat-trick. Although she was unable to complete the hat-trick, she did snag her third wicket on the last ball of the over! What a spell!

The Player

JC had her best game in Stars colours today and really made sure the girls managed a competitive total for the Strikers to chase down. Making nearly a half-century today with 42 runs off her 48 balls, JC hit four boundaries and a six during her impressive innings. Hopefully JC continues this form into the game against the Scorchers on Sunday!
