Rain beats Stars and Scorchers

16 December 2020

Melbourne Stars’ clash with the Perth Scorchers was marred by rain with the match abandoned an over into the Stars’ run chase at University of Tasmania Stadium.

The Stars were set a revised target of 76 from six overs after players left the field 17 overs into the Scorchers’ innings as the heavens opened, the men in orange finishing with 6/158.

Young gun Liam Hatcher scintillating form continued following his three-wicket debut on Saturday, snaring the key breakthroughs of Joe Clarke (49) and Mitch Marsh (0) with his first two deliveries.

The paceman was the pick of the bowlers with 2/17 off three overs until the unlikely hero Nic Maddinson was thrown the ball by skipper Glenn Maxwell.

Maddison, who has taken all three of his Big Bash wickets against the Scorchers, increased his tally to five by taking 2/8 from two overs.

He also came close to pulling off a spectacular leaping save over the rope in the deep, but his foot was grounded over the line.

West Indian sensation Nicholas Pooran made his highly anticipated debut, taking the gloves and holding onto two sharp catches.

Recruit Billy Stanlake took his first two wickets in Stars colours and finished with 2/28.
