The entertaining right-hander was the Stars’ top run-scorer in BBL|06 with 268, and has posted 884 runs from his 25 matches over three seasons in green. This places him second on the Stars’ all-time run scorers list behind only Luke Wright.
Pietersen said he was looking forward to the match.
“I’m very excited about the upcoming Big Bash season and can’t wait to play alongside my Stars teammates,” he said.
“We’ve got a talented squad that’s hungry for success and the Border Bash is the perfect preparation for us to really attack the season.
“Ben Dunk adds a dynamic element to our batting group; he knows how to find the boundary and is capable of getting us off to a real flyer, so I’m looking forward to having him on board and seeing him up close.
“We’ve also got Hasto captaining the side, who we know is a massive competitor, so that will really set the tone for us this season,” he said.
In addition to a stellar Test and ODI career, the flamboyant strokemaker has played in 183 domestic T20 matches, scoring more than 5,000 runs at an average of almost 35 and a strike rate of more than 136.
The 37 year-old has been a huge hit with fans for his performances on the field and in the commentary box, and is sure to continue in this vein in Lavington.
“I’ve been told that last year’s event was a huge success, so we’re hoping for a big crowd and a great atmosphere this year,” he said.
Pietersen will provide commentary for three of the Magellan Ashes Tests and throughout Ten’s coverage of the KFC BBL.
