“It’s the type of sporting event that attracts over 80,000 people to the ground and over a million people watching at home – that’s huge by anyone’s standards. It’s also a full day of family entertainment, with our women’s team playing in the afternoon and our men’s team playing in the evening – it’s something all Melburnians can get behind,” said Cooper.

The Stars’ other Melbourne matches include a long weekend showdown with the Brisbane Heat on January 27, match ups against the Perth Scorchers (9 January) and Hobart Hurricanes (14 Jan) at the family friendly timeslot of 7:15pm and an afternoon match against the Sydney Sixers to round out the home and away season on February 10.

For the first time, the Stars will also host the Sydney Thunder at Metricon Stadium on Saturday January 5 as part of the League’s expansion into new markets.

“The Melbourne Stars will always welcome the opportunity to bring the Big Bash into new markets. As well as bringing the fun and excitement of a BBL match to the residents of the Gold Coast, we’re equally excited that our fans and members who holiday on the Gold Coast during the summer holidays will have a chance to see a Stars match at Metricon Stadium,” said Cooper.

The Melbourne Stars has also today announced the signing of Victorian Travis Dean for the BBL|08 season. Read more about Travis' signing
