BBL and WBBL Fixtures announced

07 June 2016

The Melbourne Stars today released an exciting summer schedule with five BBL and six WBBL blockbuster matches in Melbourne running over December and January.

The Stars’ WBBL side, today bolstered by an exciting new signing in Jess Cameron and the re-signing of skipper Meg Lanning and bowler Emma Kearney, will also feature in three broadcast matches on Network Ten this season.

Melbourne Stars Chief Executive, Clint Cooper, paid tribute to Network Ten’s commitment to the WBBL saying, “The Stars are grateful for Network 10’s support of the WBBL this season. With our superstar women’s team having three broadcast matches over the summer, we have more opportunities to show Australian girls what they can achieve if they want to pursue cricket.”

One of those broadcast matches will be the Club’s marquee event of the summer, a New Year’s Day double header derby at the MCG, where the Melbourne Stars men’s and women’s teams will both take on their cross town rivals in the Renegades.

“Our New Year’s Day derby at the MCG is the highlight of the Stars’ season and we’re looking to build on the record breaking success of last summer. The derby is such a powerful event for our club to showcase what we’re about – and have the best men’s and women’s cricketers put on a show for Melbourne,” said Cooper.

The New Year’s Day derby will be the first of four home matches for the Stars’ BBL side in BBL|06, with the Club also hosting the Adelaide Strikers on Tuesday 10 January, the Brisbane Heat on Tuesday 17 January and the Sydney Sixers on Saturday 21 January. The Stars men’s and women’s sides will also share an away derby against the Renegades in Melbourne, on the Saturday following the MCG derby.

Commenting on the Melbourne Stars fixture, Clint Cooper said: “We’re thrilled to have such a strong fixture for both our BBL and WBBL teams this summer. To have the majority of our men’s matches in January gives Stars fans and families more opportunities to experience a match at the MCG during the school holidays.”

“The Stars’ WBBL and BBL fixtures work very well together this summer, helping to support our ‘one club, two teams’ mantra. Along with the two double headers in Melbourne we have simultaneous trips to Perth giving the teams more opportunities to work together and share experiences,” said Cooper.
