James ‘Jimmy’ Faulkner will continue his sensational record with the Melbourne Stars in BBL|03 as he continues to bolster his status as one of Australia’s rising all-rounders.
His rise in the world of cricket is continuing at a rapid rate, after recently tormenting South Africa in both the one-day format and the T20 series, Faulkner has been touted as Australia’s “freakish finisher” or “the next Michael Bevan”.
Faulkner has elevated his game to a new level posting back-to-back not out scores to secure consecutive victories for Australia.
It has been his ability to finish an innings when the game is in the balance that has caught the eye of onlookers.
Faulkner’s prolific T20 bowling ability has also been on full show. The all-rounder used his creative flair with the ball, to tear apart the South African innings, with tallies of 3/25 and 3/28 in the recent T20 series.
Stars fans will be hoping Faulkner can emulate his recent heroics in BBL|04.
Despite international duty affecting his availability in BBL|03, the youngster started strongly, bowling 1/20 and blasting a six en route to an unbeaten score in his first match of the tournament.
But it was the final time he played for the Stars last season, against the Adelaide Strikers, when he really excelled – and was justly crowned man of the match.
He bowled an incredible 3/9 off four overs, striking twice in the sixth over of the game to dismiss two opponents with consecutive deliveries.
Just three days later he was in action for Australia against England, in a five-match ODI series which provided the perfect stage for his skills.
He claimed at least one wicket in each of the games and his bowling skills really shone in the fourth, when he dismissed four batsmen for just 67 runs.
After an international call-up for a World Cup T20 match against the West Indies in March he made the trip to India, where he helped the Rajasthan Royals to a fifth-place finish in the IPL.
In IPL7 Faulkner stamped his claims as one of the best upcoming all-rounders, notching the highest strike-rate out of all IPL players with a staggering strike-rate of 192.55. Adding to his batting credentials Faulkner recorded the 6th highest average with the bat, with a total of 45.25.
The 23-year-old adds plenty of spark to the team and is one of the characters of the change rooms. Faulkner is contracted with the Stars until BBL|05.
