Coming off four losses, our match against the Strikers this afternoon is absolutely crucial to our girls if they want to stay in contention for finals. Kicking off the Double-Header at 3.05pm at the MCG, today’s match will be one fiery contest you do not want to miss.
Last Time We Met
Adelaide Strikers 4-169 def. Melbourne Stars 7-119 by 50 runs.
Some big hitting from the Strikers got them over the line in our last clash, with their total proving too big for our girls. Wes top-scored making 36 off 30 balls, with Anna Lanning chipping in with a knock of 24. Mornz, Flem and Sciv all snagged a wicket each, but the girls in blue were in good form and did not prove easy wickets.
Players to Watch
The Megastar has been absolutely smashing it this season, on top of the run-scoring table not only for the Stars but for the entire competition so far. We know a great knock by the Skipper always sets the girls up for a great batting innings and we think Moira will no doubt be leading from the front in our must-win clash this afternoon.
Trixie is the leading wicket-taker of our pace bowlers this season having picked up seven in total. Snagging a wicket in almost every game our girls have played, Triscari is proving that she can also be very economical with her four overs, making it hard for opposition batters to really take her on. Let’s hope we see Trixie at her damaging best against the Strikers!
With three games under her belt since returning from injury, Sciv has had some good performances with the bat for #TeamGreen. Top-scoring in our last match against the Renegades with 37 off 27 balls, she had her best performance yet and seems to be improving with each match. Enjoying her time in the middle order, we know Sciv can do real damage to our opponents when she gets going and we’re expecting nothing less against the Strikers this afternoon.
Coyte proved the difference when we last played the Strikers with both the bat and the ball. Making 72 off 55 balls before her innings came to an end, and ending her four overs with 3-12, her performance was a standout. Although Coyte has yet to have a knock quite like that one this season, she has picked up five wickets in her seven matches. This is one all-rounder that could win the game off her own merits today so our girls will need to be well prepared.
In our last match against the Strikers, Devine finished her batting innings on an unbeaten 47 off an incredible 15 balls. With three fours and four sixes helping her to an almost half-century, it’s clear she loves to smash them around the ground. And considering her batting average for WBBL|02 is currently sitting at 76.66, we think we know who our danger wicket is today!

Well it’s been a tough last couple of matches for our girls but they are confident they can turn their season around against the Strikers. After a strong start, our girls know what they’re capable of and know that’s the form they need to return to if they want to stay in contention for finals. We think we’ll be seeing some very determined looking girls take to the field in this must-win clash this afternoon!

The Strikers need a win just as much as we do today so our girls will have to be at their best if they want to take home a win. Winning only two of their last five matches, the Strikers are struggling to find form and will no doubt be just as hungry for the win today as we are. With some power hitters and a great bowling attack, our girls cannot underestimate what could be waiting for them at the home of cricket this afternoon.
Our girls kick off the Double-Header against the Strikers at 3.05pm at the MCG so make sure you get there early and grab the best seats! You can also catch our girls LIVE on the WBBL Facebook page or on cricket.com.au.
