Well it’s another big game for our boys tonight Stars fans and we cannot wait to see how it all goes down. It will be our first official clash against the Thunder since that Big Final loss and we know the boys are pumped and firing, determined to take back the title of THE best team in green in the Big Bash. All the action kicks off at 7pm tonight LIVE from Spotless Stadium on Channel 10.
Last Time We Met
Sydney Thunder 7-181 def. Melbourne Stars 9-176 by 3 wickets.
It was a relatively close loss in the Big Final last season. KP managed a handy knock of 74 off 39 balls, including a massive five sixers, whilst Stoin was the standout with the ball with 3-30 off his four overs.
Players to Watch
Wrighty was our top-scorer with the bat on Sunday against the Renegades and has been our most consistent batter so far this season. With a 48 and a 45 in our first two matches, Wrighty has been setting the tone at the top of the order and we’re expecting another great knock from him tonight. We think he’s the danger wicket for the Thunder because with two Big Bash centuries under his belt already, he could absolutely let loose if left out in the middle for too many overs.
The Hussler managed 20 runs in tough conditions in the game against the Renegades. Building a strong partnership with Wrighty and hitting four boundaries before being bowled, Huss seemed to just be starting to hit his stride. If required to bat, we think the clash against the Thunder could just see the Skipper dig in and produce his best if his last performance is anything to go by…
Hilfy could prove crucial in the final overs of the innings against the Thunder. With three wickets in our first game against the Hurricanes, including an almost hat-trick, Hilfy could really prove the difference when we’re facing a Pat Cummins onslaught in the last overs of our bowling innings!
There is absolutely no doubt in our minds that Pat Cummins is the player we need to keep an eye on tonight. We all know how good a bowler he is, especially with those 150km/h plus balls against the Heat, but surprisingly he is the Thunder’s best batter of the season so far. And what’s even more troublesome for us is that Cummins loves smashing a six – seven so far for BBL|06 to be exact. So basically Cummins could win the game for the Thunder off his own back with bat or ball. So yep, definitely need to watch out for this one!
Morgan hasn’t had the best start to BBL|06 so far but we’re not discounting him yet and think our boys still need to be wary of the damage he could produce at the top of the Thunder’s batting line-up. With plenty of international experience for his home country England under his belt, Morgan is no stranger to pressure on a big stage which could prove a big difference tonight with the Thunder hunting for their first win on the season.
We’ve had one win and one loss to start BBL|06 so it’s been a bit of a mixed bag Stars fans. But with their first taste of a loss this season against the Renegades in the Derby, the boys are keen to get back to their opening game form shown against the Hurricanes. They know they need to win these early games so they’re not under the pump in the back-half of the season so the team is raring to go for the clash tonight. Bring it on!

It’s been a horror start to the season for the Thunder, losing all four of their opening matches. Their batters have proved inconsistent in BBL|06 and with only two of their opening six batters from last season having remained, it seems the reigning champs have yet to quite get the chemistry at the top of the order right. But we know it won’t be long until it all clicks. Our boys cannot underestimate the fight the Thunder will bring to tonight.
You can catch our boys in action LI VE on Channel 10 with coverage kicking off at 7pm.
