What a game Stars fans and what a way to return to the winners list! A superb bowling innings set us up for a relatively easy run-chase and saw us get another win for the season.
Melbourne Stars 4-96 def. Adelaide Strikers 9-94 by 6 wickets.
Our girls had an awesome start to the game today in arguably our best bowling performance of the season so far. We managed to restrict the Strikers to just 94 from their 20 overs, the lowest team total in the comp so far! With the Strikers’ highest score of 22* coming from Beth Patterson, our bowling attack just proved too good for the girls in blue.
Beamsy was absolutely outstanding today, finishing with 3-12 off her four overs and almost snagging a hat-trick. Sciv and Trixie finished with two wickets each with Mornz nabbing one from her three overs. On top of all those awesome wickets, we were even treated to a run-out off a direct hit from Anna Lanning.
Unfortunately we didn’t quite get the start we were hoping for in our batting innings, with JC out LBW on the first ball. But Wes and Hayley Jensen got us off to a good start before the Strikers snagged three wickets in the space of seven overs.
So with K-Mack and Anna Lanning at the crease, we needed the girls to stabilise our run chase and that’s exactly what they did. Ending the match unbeaten on 31 and 15 respectively, Lanning hit the winning runs to get us over the line.
We don’t think any cricket fan is ever sick of seeing direct hits and today was no exception. Anna Lanning made a brilliant throw to the stumps to send Sarah Coyte on her way for just three runs in the 17th over. And just in case you missed it #TeamGreen, you can watch it again and again and again right here…
Stand-in captain Beamsy completely starred (#lovesapun) today in her four overs and got our girls off to a brilliant start in their must-win game. Finishing with three wickets that went for just 12 runs, Beamsy also took a pretty good catch off a ball from Mornz to send Nitschke on her way. But what made her spell even better? Beamsy ALMOST managed a hat-trick! ALMOST! After bowling a dot ball, Beamsy dismissed Elliot and McPharlin in consecutive LBW balls but was unable to snag the third wicket.
