What a win from our boys! With a superb bowling innings to start the game, the team then chased down the Scorchers’ total to send the Stars to the top of the BBL ladder.
Melbourne Stars 3-137 def. Perth Scorchers 7-134 by 7 wickets.
Losing the toss and sent into bowl first, our boys got off to a brilliant start at the Furnace, only taking until the second over for the boys to get the breakthrough with Hilfy clean bowling danger man Kilnger for only three runs.
Beery then absolutely starred (pun totally warranted) in the third over, snagging Bell and Bancroft LBW in the space of three balls! He then followed this up with a catch to send Marsh on his way for eight off a ball from Bolo. Cartwright was the next to fall and gave Stoin his first wicket, leaving Turner and Tye at the crease to hike up the Scorchers’ run total.
Tye dug in for the boys in orange and nearly blasted a half-century with 42 off 33 balls, but Hilfy got the breakthrough when the Hussler took another screamer of a catch to send him on his way. Agar and Bresnan were the last two at the crease and put on a handy partnership of 51 to take the Scorchers to a total of 134.
So with our target set, Bobby and Wrighty took to the middle to start our run-chase. Lukey Wright was the first to go for seven runs with Richardson nabbing the wicket in the fourth over. Bobby then fell four overs later for a handy 35 off 23 balls.
With Pete then out for just three in the 12th over, KP and Stoin were left at the crease to chase down the runs. Finishing with 44* and 40* respectively, the boys built a fantastic partnership and chipped away at the Scorchers’ total to seal the win for #TeamGreen and send us to the top of the BBL ladder.
The last hit from Stoin in the 18th over to put us at the top of the ladder was just too good to ignore. Absolutely smashing a six, Stoin hit the winning runs and completed our defeat of the previous top of the table leaders. He was instrumental in our run-chase against the Scorchers and it was all too fitting to see Stoin slam it home for #TeamGreen.
Niiiiceee Beeeery! What a game from the dot ball officer! Managing two wickets for just 12 runs off his four overs, Beery finished the game with his most economical figures in T20 cricket EVER. What a spell! Snagging both his wickets in the third over, Beery was crucial in the collapse of the Scorchers’ top order, keeping our opponents to a manageable total. And on top of that, Beery also helped send opener Shaun Marsh on his way, taking the catch off a ball from Bolo in the fourth over. We reckon that’s Beery’s best game yet for season BBL|06!
