Should the Melbourne Stars come home with a win on Saturday night, Jack Riewoldt beware – your nails are set to be painted green.
That is the warning from Richmond FC teammate and Stars ambassador, Brett Deledio.
Both AFL champions joined Stars fan-favourite, Bobby Quiney and Hobart Hurricanes wicket keeper, Tim Paine for a session in the nets at the MCG on Friday, ahead of the Stars first home game against the Hurricanes on Saturday night.
The current Coleman medallist and Tasmanian-born Riewoldt, has aligned with Hobart for BBL|02, and consequently against his footy mate. Deledio, had no hesitation in revealing to Quiney that the rivalry has provided the boys with plenty of banter.
“After we win, Jack’s going to have to paint all his fingernails and toenails green.”
All four enjoyed a hit amongst themselves, before the Richmond boys were presented with their honorary playing shirts from Quiney and Paine.
Once his Tigers days are over, Deledio would be a handy addition to the Stars line-up. Having made state cricket teams as a junior fast bowler, he can often be spotted on field as an extra set of hands for Bushrangers fielding drills.
In the meantime, however, the Stars ambassador is happy supporting the team from the sidelines, where he can enjoy matches like Wednesday’s night’s game against the Scorchers.
“Malinga’s figures were pretty impressive and I was really impressed with Warnie and his commentary coming into bowl, and it landing it where he said.”
Be sure to look out for Deledio this weekend at the MCG, he’ll be joined by yet another Richmond FC teammate, Shaun Grigg, who has also seen green for BBL|02.
