Well what a season we had in BBL|06 Stars fans! We didn’t quite get the result we were hoping for but the boys had some brilliant moments, we saw some new faces, and we had a bigger #TeamGreen than ever before.
4 WINS / 4 LOSSES
Finished 4th on the BBL ladder
Made the Finals for a sixth consecutive season
KP had another great season for #TeamGreen this year, making the most runs out of all the boys in BBL|06. Making a total of 268 runs, smashing 24 fours and six sixes, KP really led the way with the bat and showed yet again why he’s such a star. His biggest score came against our rivals the Renegades in our return Derby, finishing the game with a knock of 73, the second-biggest score out of all the boys for the season.
Bolo was a weapon with the ball in BBL|06, finishing with 14 wickets to his name. Topping #TeamGreen’s wicket-taking list, and ranking third overall in the competition, Bolo’s pace-bowling proved troublesome for our opponents. Bolo was also our only bowler to take four wickets in a match this season, with the Strikers the unlucky recipients of his dangerous arm.
We had four boys make their debut for the Stars this season. Liam Bowe, Seb Gotch, Cameron Gannon and Sam Harper all got the opportunity to don the #TeamGreen uniform in BBL|06 and we hope you were all as excited as we were to see some new talent come through. The Wiz and Gotchy in particular looked quite at home in their games – Harry snagged the wicket of Ben Dunk in his first over and Sixers Skipper Moises Henriques in Game 8, while Gotchy made 30 and 48 in two of his knocks, really helping to get the team back on track in both games.
We couldn’t go past Game 6 against the Scorchers for this one. Taking a seven-wicket win at the Furnace is no easy feat but our boys managed to keep the home side to a total of 134 to take the win. Beery absolutely was brilliant in the clash, takin 2-12 off his four overs for his best T20 figures ever. KP and Stoin both had a handy night with the bat in our run chase, finishing with 44* and 40* respectively.
Our Derby game against the Renegades kicked off with an absolute classic catch from KP to seal our first wicket of the match. With Sunil Narine smashing a ball high in the air off a delivery from Bolo, KP ran back with the flight of the ball to take a grab that saw him fly through the air like Superman to gives us what we think was the best catch of the season.
Hitting 75 off just 43 balls, Bobby managed the highest knock of the season for #TeamGreen and helped steer the boys to a win in their first game. Hitting five fours and five sixes, including one that went a whopping 95 metres, Bobby was at his absolute finest that night.
Hilfy and Bolo vs the Strikers
Well who could forget this cracker of a match?! Both Hilfy and Bolo had standout games and were both too good to split them. Bolo got the team off to a fantastic start, taking 4-30 off his four overs, the best bowling stats of any of the boys this season. Then in the dire last few overs of the game, and with our boys needing some power hitting to seal the win, Hilfy stepped up and smashed the winning runs from his knock of 32* off 24 balls under extreme pressure. Definitely one of our most heart-racing games of the season!
Yet again Stars fans you turned out in your droves at our home matches and really showed just why #TeamGreen is the best team. With a total of 198,312 of you walking through those turnstiles at the MCG, including 71,162 at the Derby alone, we know the boys could not have done it without you all there.
This year we had more of you join #TeamGreen than ever before and we could not have been more excited that you all decided to get on board! With more than 10,000 of you signing up for a Stars membership this season, we became the first club in the comp to reach such a massive milestone. We definitely have the best members going around…
