Last Time We Met

Melbourne Stars 5-143 def. Sydney Sixers 6-139 by 5 wickets.

Our boys played beautifully when we last took on the Sixers, finishing with a five-wicket win. Hilfy was the pick of the bowlers, snagging two wickets for 25 off three overs, with Beery, Maxi, Bolo and Zamps all taking a wicket each to restrict the Sixers to just 139. Pete and Maxi then dominated with the bat, with both making half-centuries to get us over the line.

Players to Watch

Luke Wright

Wrighty was the standout in our loss to the Heat, lasting the entire innings in his 50th BBL game. Making 60*, his best knock for the season, he is in form and only behind KP on our list of run-scorers. Another superb innings from Wrighty is exactly what we need tonight and we think with Finals on the line, Wright could have his best game yet.

Seb Gotch

Gotchy had a fantastic debut in our last match, performing well with the gloves and looking right at home on the MCG with his knock of 30. Not only is Gotchy lightening quick between the wickets, he also has the power and ability to smash them all over the ground.

Sean Abbott

Abbott is the Sixers’ main man when it comes to the ball, taking an unbelievable 15 in only seven matches. Not only is that the most for the Sixers, Abbot has also taken the most wickets for the whole competition! He is the most used bowler by the boys in magenta, and with his best figures this season standing at 5-16, we need to be on high alert whenever Abbott comes storming down the pitch.

Daniel Hughes

Opening batsman Daniel Hughes has topped the runs table for the Sixers in BBL|06, managing 216 for so far. He also has their highest average at 54.00 so we think Hughes is definitely the danger wicket for tonight’s clash. Hughes’ highest score this season sits at 85 so we know he can go big and our boys will need to snag him early if they want that Finals spot.

It was a tough loss for our boys against the Heat and with an opportunity to seal a Finals spot on the line, they were no doubt disappointed they let it slip away. But tonight’s match gives them another chance and we know they will give all they’ve got to get over the line and make sure they’re in the chase for a spot in another Big Final.
